It's not where I got the game from where it works this way but I downloaded this last night and it appears to be the same version. You may need the nice and easy to use dgVoodoo wrapper for old directx versions in order to get it working well with mostly but not fully flawless performance on modern Windows.

The arena is fun too but I'm sure I'd get trashed if it was with human players in it. I'm not an ace pilot, I simply love the way the mechs control in this, it's a shame nobody apes it. Unless someone has suggestions but personally I've tried to find any kind of mech game that can control in this manner and even just a tank game since the tanks also have the same basics of a turret moving independently of the body and direction but I came up with nothing solid.

Even games that in theory can work like this like MechWarrior Online don't have the same quality feel at all as far as I'm concerned, I couldn't aim for shit in MWO, perhaps it depends on the mech but I wasn't going to grind out a game I don't enjoy in the hope it gets better.
